Haunted Mansion Stories- Tale of the Ghost Host

Tale of the Ghost Host
Name: Master George Gracey Jr.
Born: October 31, 1830, Winsocket, RI
Died: February 29, 1872
The story of George Gracey Jr. is the tale of a father and son. George never really knew his father for having grown-up in boarding schools. This alienation was to influence his entire life. Young Master Gracey was sent to the finest schools including Yale. In 1858 he moved back into the mansion when his father, George Gracey Sr., was murdered by his wife Mary.
Obsessed with getting to know his father even after death, George turned to the occult. While seeking out mediums at carnivals, he met Lilian O’Malley, a tight-rope walker whom he soon married. He later met Madame Leota in New Orleans. Though some believe he met her as early as 1853. Bringing the sultry witch to the Mansion, they began holding séances and performing rituals to talk to the dead and summon ghosts. Eventually he became interested in all aspects of the dark mysteries, including ancient religions. Gracey spent his fortune on relics, books, even a mummy complete with a tomb.
Lilian became increasingly jealous of Madame Leota and sought for George to remove her, but George wouldn't hear of it. His wife's protests were silenced one day as she fell to her death in a swarm of crocodiles while performing her old act for friends at a party.
George’s obsession with the supernatural grew and he squandered the rest of his fortune in these pursuits. Desperate for money, he married a second cousin, Emily, to lock down more of the family riches. There was an unfortunate incident shortly before the wedding but nothing ever came of it other than Emily’s pronounced dislike of the attic.
Only 16 at the time, Emily was still coy on their wedding night and they played Hide and Seek. Alas, she hid in a trunk, still in her gown. The lid became locked and she suffocated before being found.
Some say Master Gracey went mad and hung himself in the attic. No one has lived there for 50 years, but Master Gracey’s voice can still be heard.
